With the popularity of Al Reem Island growing, we take a look at ten reasons why you REALLY SHOULDN’T move there…
1) Dreadful Views
If you’re like us, the thoughts of crystal blue skies and views towards iconic landmarks are enough to make you sick. Panoramic sunrises and picturesque sunsets – give me views of dull grey buildings any day.
2) Nowhere to exercise
There is only a 2.4 kilometre waterfront promenade and canal, parks and access to fitness facilities offering yoga, zumba, circuit training, martial arts, strength and conditioning programmes… I would rather sit on the couch than get fit anyway!
3) Too Expensive
Only 50,000aed deposit to buy one of Al Reems first freehold waterfront apartments in a cool newly launched development, Woah! That’s sooo expensive. You could rent somewhere for that price.
4) No community
Why would you want to mix with people from all ages and nationalities? Do you really want to go to community events with organic food trucks, street performances and pop-up markets? Who wants to meet your neighbour or have your security guard say hello every morning?
5) Too much traffic
There are so many traffic jams. Just the other day, people had to wait at the traffic lights for ten seconds. What a headache.
6) Full of know-it-alls
Why would you want great schools and world-class universities on your doorstep? With the likes of Repton School Abu Dhabi and Sorbonne University on Al Reem Island, there are far too many clever people.
7) It is not cool
There’s nothing cool about Al Reem…well, apart from the world’s largest snow park at the Reem Mall.
8) Too much green space
Reem Island used to be dreamily lacking in green areas, but then they built the 1 million sq. ft Reem Central Park and created landscaped residential properties and that ruined it for those who want to live somewhere without any trees
9) Too many skateboarders and rollerbladers
As part of the development they also built a top-notch skatepark, which means that not only do the younger generation get exposed to the dangers of the outdoors, they might even start socialising with other people
10) So far from everything
15 minutes’ drive to the Louvre Abu Dhabi! The Paris version is probably closer
